WIRING....ERRRRRRRRRRRR!! (brake lights)!!!
Looking for some insight.
Brake lights went out yesterday.
Fuse is new, bulbs are new took brake light switch apart and cleaned contacts.
Still nothing.
But........when I put the truck in reverse and the reverse lights come on (real bright) and so do the brake lights (dimly) and the signal lights same.
Signal lights front and back work normal on their own.
Any suggestions???
Did I mention I HATE wiring
Any help greatly welcomed.
Need it to haul tomorrow morning.

what year is the truck?
fill out your sig with some of your truck info so we know. wiring betwen the years can be totally different.
have you checked all grounds? the one that goes from the battery to the core support?

It's a '92, (I'll amend the data after this)
I just cleaned that ground up a month ago. I did some massive wiring on it and it has been awesome the last month.
I just moved it out of the shop and hooked it up to the trailer and everything works!!!!!?????
Love this truck but I think it's getting time to redo the whole thing with a completely new harness. I'm getting tired of redoing things....

UN-PLUG the trailer and see what it does.
Most likely, the truck lights are now getting GROUND through the trailer lights.
I can't see how differing year models can make any difference in simple brake and tail-light wiring; it has been pretty much the same on everything since way back in the forties.

hey-Hey!!!,
Second confirming and cleaning the grounds.
When my brake and turn signal failed on one side it was because the shiny copper had turned to red dust on about 6' of wire running forward. Clip, inspect, move forward, clip, inspect, move forward until I had metal inside the insulation again. Salvage the contacts from the original sockets and solder in new wire...what a PitA it was.
cheers,
Douglas
