I'm wondering if an aluminum camper from a 77 ford w/ an 8ft bed will fit my truck. Just wondering if anyone has done similar or knows the models well enough.

I looked at one from a '78 Ford recently and it didn't look like it'd fit. The Ferds have an angle to the rear of the cab and the camper was made to fit up against it. Ours have a flat rear of the cab. You need an 8 footer that has a flat front.

 

Unlike the fiberglass units, most of the aluminum toppers are one-size-fits-all.


I found a real steal of a deal on a fiberglass topper that was in almost all ways just what we wanted; the color was even almost a perfect match.

The only down-side was that it was made for and mounted on an early-90s Chevy.

The length worked out perfect, but the sides tapered toward the rear like a boat-tail bullet, so much that the topper sides barely sit upon the bed-sides at the rear.

In order to provide secure fastening, I bolted some angle-iron to the bed-rails and fastened the center and rear of the topper to that.


If I didn't point it out, one would think the topper was a made-to-fit.
