widest tire on a factory rim?
Hi, I know this has been asked before but a quick search came up with nothing. I am wondering what the widest tire that can be mounted on a factory steel rim? I currently have 285's on my RC and want a wider more aggresive look tire wise but would love to keep the factory hub caps if possible. I was thinking 315's but who knows? Any help as always is much appreciated

When I replaced the OEM pizza cutters with 265/75/16s, the manual from one of the tire manufacturers (Michelin or Goodyear?) recommended a minimum rim width of 7 inches. (The OEM rims from Dodge are 6 inches wide.)
I found a good used set of older Ford steelies ("Accuride"), which are 7 inches wide and began running them. My OEM Dodge hubcaps fit perfectly on the Accurides.
Be aware however, the newer Ford rims (after the transition to "Super Duty") have metric lug hole spacing and are no longer "eight-on-six-and-a-half" which is the spacing that fits our trucks.

http://www.tirerack.com lists the rim width range for each tire under the specs tab. pick what you want for a tire then scroll down through the specs to see how big you can go to still fit the rim.
