Who'd have thought the ashtray'd break?

Well it did....cant imagine a dash part breaking. So heres what I did. Its just stuck in there. Im gonna put 2 12v outlets and 6-8 switches in it. Im also gonna make a phone holder to go somewhere around it, and in the future, if I ever get my tach from egauges.com, Ill add on to the bottom of this for the water temp gauge. Let me know what ya think....Im probably gonna paint it either black or tan.

My only concern, from past experiences fooling with treadplate, is that the treads are gonna make it a pain to get switches and such to sit straight.

I would leave it as it is; but, make a flat-surfaced panel for the accessories to mount to.

Cut a hole in the treadplate, smaller around the edges than the outside dimensions of the flat piece, and secure the flat panel to the outside of the treadplate box with stainless finish-washers and screws.

Built thus, you can remove the screws and pull out the panel, without having to mess with the mounting of the treadplate box.

For the flat surface, you could use dark (or colored) plexiglass. (or polycarbonate--it is more user-friendly, as in not so brittle, just harder to find)

Now, where are you going to keep your ashes, in an urn on the mantel ??

That is a fine idea. I was thinkin while i was driving though, and theres probablyonly gonna be 3switches there. If I do more than 3, Ill do the flatplate, other wise, Ill space them to where its no problem. Thanks for the input.

I have used diamond tread for a switch mounting plate. All you have to do is where the switches go through and switch is to mount is grind down the offending raised ridge. A little work, but far worth it. If you take your time you cannot tell that it has been done.

When I got my dash my ashtray was broken off and MIA. So my solution was a new dash. And since I have been the through the pain of a new dash I will never drill a single hole into it. The plastic on the dashes are so brittle, I'm afraid to touch it.
