Who has done the D80 swap?
Need some help with parts, anybody know anything? Like what u-bolts to use and where to get them, what parking brake cables, what to do with the u-bolt plates (since 2nd gen springs are wider), where to get lug nuts for the Dana 80.

Brake cables- Used the D80 ones and relocated the bracket on the frame
U-bolt plates- Used the 2nd gen plates, they're not wide enough to not work
Lug nuts- Got them from a tire distributor.

Thanks man. I've tried every auto parts store trying to find u-bolts and lug nuts with absolutely no luck. I have both 1st and 2nd gen cables, just didn't know which ones I could use. I don't have the plates yet, my buddy said he thinks he still has them but doesn't know. So in the case that he doesn't, you think if I were to use the 1st gen's and trim the mount the leaf spring sits on down to let the 1st gen u-bolts pass by it would be alright. Or do you think it would weaken the mount? Oh yeah, I haven't got to this point yet, but will the 1st gen u-joint work in the 2nd gen yoke? Thanks again.

Yeah on both the trucks I've done the swap on I just got some bolts bent up at my local driveline shop(Inland Truck Parts) on my truck I upgraded to 5/8 bolts and drilled out the bottom plates from the 2nd gen and used those
I haven't fiddled with the cables on either truck yet
The lugnuts I got from a buddy who owns a tire store, they are a 9/16 stud and are 18 threads an inch IIRC

Yeah, they are 9/16-18 studs. Every place I checked tried selling me nuts for a SRW. I need DRW, guess I'll stop at the tire shop on lunch tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it.

So, I talked to every tire shop around and not one can get dually lug nuts. I have a spring shop making the u-bolts and new cables should be in tomorrow. So now if I can locate nuts, maybe it will move again this weekend.

Have you completed the axle swap yet? If not make sure you post up pictures of your progress. I'm interested in doing it too, but I'll need to get a cab/chassis dually axle to keep it the same width as my stock Dana 70 in the rear.

Are you serious? Well I might just as well have the driveshaft cut for the Getrag then. I didn't want to do that until I decided on a clutch. There isn't enough slide in the trans to allow the install of a D80?

after you get your rear in you could check and see if it'll work for a while but I doubt it, when I put the 80 in the old mans truck I took an 1" and a 1/2 out

Alright, I see what happens. Thanks for the heads up though, I really didn't think it was going to be that much. Guess I should have done some more research. Still couldn't pass up a D80 for $400.
