^^^ These are often found on E-Bay for much cheaper. ^^^
I used this one for the kill-cable; it twists to lock anywhere on the travel :

I know the one pictured says "ENGINE STOP"; they also have several identical ones that say "THROTTLE".

Cool, this is one thing I have not had time to research for myself. It is a good idea, a friend (well me too) used an old hood release cable for the pull cable kill. He was loading a tractor on a trailer, the truck was in 1st gear, the tractor pushed the truck and trailer forward a bit and the truck started and took off across the field, he just drove past on the tractor and then jumped in the truck.
So a locking cable is the way to go, or put it in reverse when loading vehicles on the trailer.

YES; to prevent the very scenario that you described, a locking KILL-Cable is paramount in importance.
There are numerous similar stories where some gourd-head didn't leave the kill-cable pulled back on a farm-tractor, another vehicle bumps the tractor, or a cow uses it for a scratching-post, the wheels roll over the engine, and away she goes.
I once heard someone complaining about their new work-hand always leaving the kill-cable pulled out, and the one complaining would hop on the tractor and start cranking the engine, wondering why it wasn't starting, and then notice the cable still being in KILL position.
While this person was complaining, I decided the new hand had a lot more sense than the employer.

Not to throw stones or anything but you guys leave your trucks in gear while your not in it? I know lots of guys say never trust a parking break, but aint that what they are there for? Not saying that a locking shut down cable is a bad idea. I'm just reading these stories thinking to myself why would one leave their trucks in gear? I've been thinking of installing a pull cable but more as a anti theft device (lots of truck thefts going on here to run people south of the boarder here). The guy that works in the bay next to me had his 24 valve stolen a few months back, police found it stuck in the mud way down south!

The son's truck has the factory throttle-holder thingie.
I wouldn't really call it a throttle-cable, as it only holds the pedal in the cab wherever you set it.
It works wonderfully to set the throttle at whichever RPM desired; BUT, it cannot be called upon to operate the throttle should the accelerator-cable become dis-abled.

i bought mine from saturnsurplus.$12.50 each.( phone 717 692 9500)they are for 2 1/2 to 5 ton trucks.stop cable is 66" long.throttle is 100" long.i just welded a small piece of square stock on the throttle pedal and drilled a hole in it.ran the cable thru and used a split nut on the other end.no problems with it. it's been on for a long time.
