wheel stud question "aftermarket wheels"
hi guys, as you can see on my post a while back i purchased some rockstar aftermarket wheels for my 90 D350 dually. this past weekend i went home getting ready to mount them, fitment was great but i cant seem to find lug nuts for them. i popped one of the wheel studs out of the front and took it with me to the local parts stores with no luck. the salesman told me that the studs were 5/8. question
1 can i change the studs to a 9/16 and if so can anyone give me some visual education on how to remove the rear studs on my dually?
2 i purchased some 2 inch spacers but my 5/8 lug nuts are too tight to fit in the hole on the adapters. are the adapters safe?
sorry for the long explanation but any help would be greatly appreciated

Actually you can.
Unfortunately yes the Knurl size is so large, the only size you can downsize to is the 1/2" studs - same part number as on the D250 trucks. Again - they have the same knurl as the 5/8" D350 Lug Bolts.
going down to 1/2 will allow you to get some Shanked Lug nuts that will grip deep into the wheel if length is your issue. The 5/8th studs are actually 1/16" longer than the 1/2 D250 lug bolts.

There are lots of different studs in the market; they have different combination of knurl size, thread size, shank length, and thread size/length. If I were you I would look for a 9/16 or 14mm thread size that matches the knurl size of your current studs. And if you can't find one with same knurl size, get one slightly larger and ream the holes as needed.
I've also used a 2-inch spacer in my GMC 10500 dually rig and they're fine; I've never seen them loosen after so many thousand miles. I use loctite in the studs and intermediate nuts.

No other options. This has all be covered before...

Pictures and knurl dimentions are in that thread. I went through many many catelougs at every auto parts and heavy truck/industrial supplier and basically they all work out of the dorman catelog. The thread above has complete and comprehensive info for our trucks. It shows the two options with .722/.723 knurl in 1/2" (stock D250) and 5/8" (Stock D350)

One last option I forgot to mention, which I've used before - bring your 5/8 studs to the machnist and he will thread it to a smaller size of your choice. I had a set of 5/8 studs for my GMC dually adapter that I had threaded in a CNC to 14mm.
As for removing the studs, use a sledgehammer to knock them off their holes. Use throw-away nuts at the end of the studs to protect the threads.
