What's the safest way to pull the engine/trans?

Hi I'm wondering if it's safe enough on the engine to just use the two engine hook points to remove the engine and transmission (727).
I have one hoist mount point on the rear right side (when you look at it from the front) and one at the front left.

Do you folks think this is enough or should I sling the you know what out of it?
thanks
Diz

With the engine weighing in the 1000 pound range, I think that I would uncouple the two of them first. The lifting eyes that are on the engine are meant to pull the engine out level. With the transmission on it you will be way off ballance.

I just pulled mine with the factory lifting eyes, I centered up my chain thinking the weight of the trans would give me a little angle on the whole assembly. Didn't work, weight of the trans had virtually no effect on the tilt of the engine-trans combo. I removed the whole frontend on mine also. It is a TIGHT squeeze getting the trans away from the firewall while the oilpan is up against the crossmember. Loosening the cab mounts helps a lot.

That's probably the biggest difference between the 1st genners and the overvalvers. Our pockets generally aren't as deep and we like to make sure it gets done right the first time by doing it ourselves. As the old saying goes, "if you want something done right, do it yourself."
