What torque converter and why.
ok truck and mods in sig.
i am now hauling a trailer more and i want to make use of the power by putting it to the ground.
I can get a nv5600. but i dont really want the hassle.
What aftermarket converter should i get? AND WHY?
goerend? BD? TCS?
should i put in a 47 or 48 re
should a lock-up torque converter be the route?
my tranny is low mile but does Not have any mods.
i gots about $1500 to spend

If you have only $1500, I would buy a good converter for your stock tranny, maybe a new valve body (or at least a shift kit), a trans temp gauge and an auxilliary tranny cooler with a fan (if you don't have the factory option installed). After that, you can adjust your bands up and put a pressure gauge on the test port and adjust your line pressure up so the clutches don't slip as much.
A quick search will show threads and threads and threads of peoples opinions on torque converters. Goerend, DTT, and Suncoast seem the way to go. Hughes used to have a decent upgrade for about half price, but they have since creeped their cost up to those of the better ones. So, their price doesn't look as attractive now, and I don't know their warranty.
Everything I've seen from Bully Dog seems to be overpriced, but that's my opinion. Havn't heard much about their TC.

Dzl_damon just said everything I would have suggested. With your budget, that'll get you everything you need for a solid tranny that'll last for years and should be good for 300 - 350HP.

Good converter, shift kit, deep pan, temp. gauge. and adjust bands and everything to proper spec.
Maybe throw a 2nd gen flexplate in there too, since they're stronger.

you cant get in to a 47rh for your budget. I got a 47rh core for free and rebuilt it. Rebuild parts about $700, converter BD found on C/L new in unopened box for $700 $400 after sending in a core a for a core Return of $300 you will have to spend 1000-1200 just for a converter, motor plate $ 75,starter I cheaped out and got new one off EBay for $120 all the parts houses wanted 185-250 + a core, drive line work $300 mine was bent shorten front haft, new ujoints, carer bearing and re tube rear half,Im sure I forgot some parts. + side I sold my working 518 for $300 and my old starter for $50.Ken
