What is with me and windshield wipers and first gen trucks?
Okay, the out of production intermitent wiper thing- that I get, I bought this 92 super cherry first gen, and it had that problem- one speed only. The PO had replaced the switch on the column. Yesterday, the wipers quit completely, and not the fuse. I am guessing the switch went bad- again. I went to amazon, ordered another.
I also saw that they offered a relay for this- I have no idea where it actually plugs in thought? I ordered it anyone because it was less than 10 bucks.
Anyone else have ongoing wiper problems with their first gen?
I also eBay-ed another intermittent box.
Living in a jungle rainforest in the tropics, you need wipers all the time!

You can not just replace multi-speed / intermittent wiper controllers for the high and low only style back and forth.
I tried to put a swap a multi speed controller where a two speed was on my '91.0 and it stopped working in VERY short order. I think it popped the fuse, but not not remember 100% as it was 8 years ago.

My intermittent wipers didn't work on my 89 when I got it. They worked on high speed only. I finally figured out that the plug which connects to the control box by the steering column just behind the dash on the right had broken connections. I cut the plug off and soldered the wires directly to the connector fingers on the board. Be careful when you're pulling the box out as I shattered the case on mine and had to JB weld it back together.

This is great information. The box looks like it is in good condition, and before I pop for the 50+ bucks for one off ebay, I am going to try the connection issue. Also the new-ish switch the PO bought appears to be bad in the column at the same time. And there is a relay as well, but where is that located? Haven't found it yet.

Well, you know how amazon is, you buy the switch, then it says "frequently bought together' and this relay pops up, And it says it fits my vehicle, and I am like ***, where is that?

I actually posted an answer on the 3rd gen by accident on this subject- oops.
So here is the update-
I replaced the "multi-function" switch- got power to the wipers- but now, oops, arm of wiper was not connected- what? So will do that tomorrow- pulled the intermittent wiper module (forgot official name of that part) and it was pretty corroded at the contacts, cleaned them- and could hear the wiper motor doing the intermittent than and changing speeds with the switch- yay! Got late last night, so tomorrow morning when I am off work I will fix the arm, and should have almost like new wiper stuffs LOL.
