What kind of power should I be making?

Ok so I'm making 356 on fuel with a 62mm S300 and 14mm h/r...and it seems low (to everybody). Made 514 with spray, but discounting the nitrous, what should I be making? I was thinking about 500 to the wheels, minus about 50 hp for the non lockup (so about 450). Most people think I still need more timing (it's just short of bumped to the head right now) and an intercooler, and that's what's holding me back. What say you all?

I agree...timing an some nice cold air would go a long way. Id jump a tooth on that ip pump gear and shove it to the head. My guess is that it'll help more then that cold air will.

I think both are in order.

When i put in my intercooler it cleared up my wot haze at the time to nothing. So I turned up the pump some more.

I believe having big charge tubes and a bigger than a stock 1st gen intercooler is a must for these trucks. Your turbo pushes 700+cfm through a tiny little pipe. Anything you can do to free that up will help.

Just for comparison I made 420hp with a 12mm pump and a single HX40/16. I have no idea where my timing was set at the time.

is your head ported? and I agree with a big intercooler and at least 3" pipes. I'm sure more timing would help get er up there.

I'd say an intercooler and leave the timing where it's at since you love to spray.

i wouldn't go too crazy with timing since you're spraying. too much timing can blow head gaskets too. and i know the head is studded and o-ringed though but i wouldn't rely too much on both of those.

As near as I can figure, I am about at 18-20 degrees right now, and I also do have a 3 inch crossover. If I bumped up the timing, I would be leaving the nitrous off.....

1st gen intercooler and piping will support just about all the hp the VE pump will support. It's the easiest to install on a nonIC truck as well. A 5 speed or lockup tranny will be needed if you want more than your current HP as well. The non-lockup just ain't gonna do it, I don't care what any of the gasser trash says, or any 800hp gasser drag racer says.

Just for example, I did 450rwhp with a particular setup on a 5 speed truck. Took that 'setup' off the 5 speed truck installed everything onto a tight 518 auto truck and the best I could get it to do was 340rwhp.

So basically, it's time for Diesel Power to do a write up on ditching your 727 for a 5 speed and then installing a 1st gen intercooler.

x2 i always thought 5 speeds were so slow now i drive one everyday they're scary fast feeling the power every gear when the turbo comes in.

imagine a 98+ NV4500 in a 1st gen with a BD short throw shifter.....mmm

how far is your timing past the mark, like 3/8"?
