I tried this method on a trip down from Alaska through the western half of the lower 48. The water pump in my 1992 crapped out at a place called Fort Amorgosa about 80 miles or so northwest of Las Vegas. The tow truck cost $300. If I'd just had the foresight to take along a spare water pump I could've saved a lot of money.

I wholeheartedly agree with taking a spare water pump.

head light I would convert to the 9004 Bosch conversion then no worries about sealed beam lights i bough mine for 100 $ Canadian and they came with glass not plastic conversion and the Bosch 9004 light and easy to do

well later on the sun barley sets in mid summer land of the midnight sun but may is a bit early that's all and as you get further north it stays light out ... great for partying

What about a test light or multi-meter? Plus some wire, terminals & crimper.
Hand cleaner & rags.
Some JB Weld & Goop, baling wire, duct tape - hey you never know!
Plastic for laying on wet/muddy ground?
Flashlight/worklights.
Diesel 911 or something to help fill a filter or prime a pump.
Don't forget the extra TP...

At some point you have to quit after you run out of room or weight...

I lost a left front wheel about forty miles out of Watson Lake. If I ever go again, I will have a set of bearings for front wheel, back wheel, and trailer, and tools to get frozen parts off wheel. Brake cleaner, wheel and trailer wheel grease, bearing grease packer, extra nut(s), cotter keys, and lots of rags.
A correct size chain to chain up an axle if you "lose" a wheel on the trailer.
A good set of magnetic tail lights.
Wire, to wire through connectors (they get old on these trucks and start getting loose). I also carry some extra connectors to use where I don't want to wire across a loose one.
Unfortunately, there are few tow trucks on the Cassiar; it is essentially wilderness for miles and miles and miles. The Alaska is terminally boring though.
