I got mine from Rip Rook . I`m very pleased, and Rip`s a great guy to deal with. That said there are several other choices available, I`m sure others`ll chime in.

I'm using the BigExhaust.com brand. www.bigexhaust.com. 4" downpipe back. I didn't order the 3" downpipe, just the 4" pieces. Then built a 4" downpipe to connect to the kit right before the t-case.

From what I understand, Rip sells a 4" downpipe with no flange welded on the turbo end and then the bottom end needs trimming to fit. This way you could weld a 3-4 reducer and flange so you could run a 3" turbo (H1C, HX35) and have a 4" downpipe. Or you could weld a 4" flange and run a 4" turbo (HX40, HTB2).

I've tried piecing a kit together for less than the full 4" turbo back kit from Stan's. His kit is $475 with a muffler and he also sells just the 4" downpipe so you can make your own kit "cheaper". From my calculations by the time you buy that 4" downpipe, the 4" head pipe to T-case, a real 4" muffler, and some 4" flex pipe you are real close to that $475 price.

I have looked at Rip's kit, but the fact Stan's has the flange already on the downpipe and it fits all the stock hangars is the deciding factor for me. Also, I think Rip's kit is the same price with only a standard 3" downpipe (the 4" is optional and requires welding/cutting the downpipe). Seems really hard to beat Stan's kit!

EDIT: Also, anyone here running the Stan's 4" downpipe with a 12cm or 14cm wg or non-wg housing? I'm wondering if the bigger downpipe will still fit with the longer housings (without any firewall modification).

I'd like to see a pic of Stan's 4" downpipe. I've seen Rip's. Also a link to Stan's kit too.

www.dieselperformancesystem.com has full 4" exhaust (3" downpipe) for $377. If I end up with this 92 W250 I will be ordering said kit.

Here is my exhaust, but I doubt you would want this.

That seems kinda pricey for still having a 3" downpipe.

For only $100 more you can have a full 4" system from turbo back. That 3" downpipe seems like a real bottleneck to me, so I'm going all 4" which is probably overkill for me....at least for now!

Is there really going to be that much difference between the 3.5" DP and the 3"?

That's funny. That's the exact kit sold by www.bigexhaust.com, even same diagrams/pics. A little higher in price too.

Don't even waste your time with that bozo on TDR about the group buy. His 4" doesn't start til AFTER the transfer case, so about half the kit is 3" or 3.5". He didn't even know anyone made a 4" piece to get past the t-case.

I would not get all worked up over a 4" downpipe until I NEEDED it, as in a 4" turbo. 3" downpipe and 4" back is FINE.

IMO the larger downpipe is the only reason to change the exhaust. Not doing so is like putting a stock-size 3" muffler on a full 4" exhaust system...you wouldn't think of doing that would you?

I would also choose the 3.5" downpipe to the T-case, over the 3" downpipe to 4" just before the T-case...especially if it's $100 less!

Either way, I still think the Stan's full 4" kit is the wtg and just ordered mine a few minutes ago. Let's see me try to outgrow this puppy!

Hey thanks guys!
How hard would it be to make your own hanger system?? If it is hard I was thinkin about going with the stans headers system it seems to be pretty straight forward. For you guys that have put in a stans headers system is it difficult to install?? Also a system that does not come with a hanger kit, is it hard to install?? Thanks guys for your imput

Think about it this way: what is going to offer more restriction, a full 3" exhaust or a short 3" stack out the hood? Putting a 4" after a 3" will reduce backpressure. Also, the stock exhaust tends to be "pinched" where it goes around the T-case and over the rear axle, so you eliminate that restriction.

www.bigexhaust.com

Everything from downpipe back 4" : $180, then you can add Rip's or Stan's 4" downpipe and have a full 4" for $350 or so.

I also thought about the TDR group buy until I found out it only went to 4" after the T-case.

I have my exhaust setup this way.
3 inch pipe coming out of the turbo, muffler cut off!
Then at the back of the cab, I ran a 90* elbow up into my flatbed into my "Smoke Box" then out of the top of the box into 2 5 inch Curved Chrome stacks.
Loud?
Definately
Satisfied?
Get a grin every time I drive it!

I built my own 3 years ago. I went to a full 4" about 2" from the turbo. Any way to stop restriction is good. If you are going to spend the money, than go to a full 4" right off the turbo. You wont regret it. Its not just about releaving pressure but lowering Exhaust temp, (EGT)
Good luck and enjoy.
