what does a bed weigh?

I'm switching from a steel flatbed to a regular bed with a camper shell on it. I don't have livestock anymore, so I don't haul hay anymore, and I want the option of throwing some camping or fishing gear in the back under a canopy.

My question is about moving the bed around. I bought a parts truck with a decent box and canopy on it, and while I know I will need some kind of overhead lifting help to get the steel flatbed off, I'm wondering if me and a couple of other guys can move the stock bed around without a tractor or something.

BTW, I'll be selling my flatbed when I get it removed. It was custom made for this truck and has been one sturdy and well made bed for me for years. 7' by 9' if I remember correctly.

I would say 3 guys to make it easier on your backs. Once you injure your back, its a long road to recovery.

I have a block and tackle in my garage and can take mine off by myself, and I can lift it using the rope.

Yeah, the bed does have some weight to it. I recently aquired a shortbox for my 93' crew conversion. I was able to lift it easily with 3 other people. I second the comment about bad backs....... I just got over a herniated spinal disc just a few months ago (28 yrs old). I will never be able to do big lifts again without risking further damage. I rather find more folks to help or figure out some kind of mechanical advantage to use.

My guess for an 8" bed would be about 200#.
