Was thinking about the fuel tank sending unit and pickup problems, and the cost of the aftermarket unit and thought why not install one of those aftermarket fuel tank sumps? You could still have the sending unit hooked up but draw the fuel out of the bottom of the tank. Think I would go this route and depending on where and who you buy one from they seem to run from $50-$200.

The sump is another option for sure. I was searching for them when I tripped on thhe above.

Reading on another forum I learned the IP has enough pull to run these engines with the lift pump bypassed. 😊

Continued on the rear bumper restoration I did recently. Wired up the back up lamps, and now I'm doing my little bullet lights, and the license plate lights Should have it done by 2050, or so.

Installed clearance and back up lights

Never done

Yes they do have a small vane pump internally, but I still wouldn't want to rely on that long term for my fuel pumping needs.

Rear bumper done except for adding the D rings to the mounts. Lights work, and all buttoned up.

Fun project.

Cranked it. No start. Wouldn't hit a lick. Put 6lbs of air into the tank with my elcheapo Walmart tire pump. No leaks found. I probably blew the fuse on the truck and the pump died. (It still works when plugged into the car) It must be something in the tank. However turned the key and it fired right up! Dropped the tank. Pulled the pick up/whatever you want to call it and compared it to the electric pump assembly I bought from Advanced Auto for a '98. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...ier/11645941-p they had a 20% off code so I went out the door pretty cheap. Ordered it online. My buddy picked it up on his way out here from Nashville. It has a sticker on it as a Carter unit! Lifetime warranty.

Product Subtotal: $186.99 Discounts: -$37.40 Shipping Charges: $0.0 Shipping Discount: -$0.0 Core Charges: $0.0 Tax: $13.84 Order Total: $163.43

After I ordered it I came across this
Amazon Amazon
$72. It's made by Aisin. Aisin is a Japanese company. They have OEM parts factories all over the US. If I remember correct they make alternators etc. I used to haul stamped window frames out of Indiana for the Corolla plant in MS.

My friend told me I will lose the "Low Fuel" warning capability. Big deal, right? Hopefully the gauge will work fine. We couldn't find the new connector for the pump. We will need a relay, to go with it. Get the flexible conduit covering for the wiring. I can't seem to find out how many PSI the pump is.

I've primed my pump and injection lines so many times the thought of running dry doesn't bother me so the low fuel warning indicator isn't a big deal for me at all either.

When your fuel gauge is on "E", you still have 7.5 to 8 gallons of diesel in there. Low fuel warning is inconsequential, unless you're a nutjob who runs a diesel below "E".

Forward clutches
Midway through my first auto trans rebuild. Haven't started the OD section yet, but so far so good...mostly. Going to the machinist tomorrow to get my forward pressure plate milled down so I can get into spec by adding an extra set. Here's some carnage:

No good
