I found a socket big enough to fit the nuts which helped a lot. You can't find the socket in a "normal" auto parts shop for ricers. You have to look at an industrial supply house for it.

I bought the 2 & 1/2" socket 5 years ago at Napa. Thats not the issue. The problem lies in the fact that the tabbed washer (which I have a dozen or so of), are pure crap! The single inner tab shears off, and therefore both nuts spin in unison. Once both nuts spin, my 500 ft lb impact gun is worthless, as if I spin them off together, the treads will be galled and I'll be buying a new axle from Ollie.

Look at the Red arrow, and you will see the inner tab is,missing

I replaced mine with the double nut, but mine doesn't have the gear looking part, One nut has a pin built into it and prevents the outer from coming loose...Mark

Look what came in today.

Yippee

Spicer 660568

The part number is only for the one nut and pin. I bought the whole set from Ebay, and both nuts and the tabbed washer were supplied in the single box. I guess they chucked out the other boxes, as it was cheaper to ship. No problem either way for me.

Do you have the special socket to fit the nuts?

Yup. The one in the case, dead center.

Impossible to torque the nuts to spec, otherwise

Tomorrow the paint shoukd be dry, so I can take,it for a spin.Just bled the brakes, adjusted the shoes, adjusted the e brake, and wrapped it up.I started the truck, put it in drive, and let it run for 20 minutes or so. Reverse for 10, and drive for 10. Even though I prelubed the bearings before I installed them, I never drive the truck until I'm sure the hubs are, full of gear oil, and not leaking.

Its super easy to adjust the brake shoes with no axle in there, and even easier to paint when it's in reverse, spinning. Paint just finds its own way on
