I like your enthusiasm, Fordzilla.
Carlisle 2020 might be the first year my daughter could follow me down in something, after a year practicing on something I have not put so much time into. I am also hoping my friend Walter and his daughter have their '86[?] RC ready for a trip down this summer or next.
Over the past 8 years we have brought down both crew cabs, Poncho and the '89 RC all at least once and put in the show. It is about a 1,000 mile round trip for us.
We where hoping to have the '78 2wd RC converted to 12V power and ready for this year, but that is looking like a real stretch of possibility at this point.

Got it washed. Was planning on fixing my transfer case leak ( I get a new leak somewhere on the truck every year). I thought it was the front output shaft, but it looks like it is the shift rails. Uhg...

Today I yanked my A/C compressor that was leaking freon from the front seal and then locked the pulley bearing which finished off the fan snout that had been apparently cracked a long time.
Replaced with a new unit from RockAuto, "all the parts you will ever need" and did all the things properly, held vacuum, the whole 9 yards.
As soon as the compressor clutch kicks on it jumps one rib on the compressor pulley. Everything looks lines up and the pulley that would have the most influence on the compressor pulley is the tensioner, and it seems fine.
File this under "nothing I ever do goes as planned".
Ran it up to 90 and nothing fell off, and since I have an electric fan setup I am not worried about being down a belt rib, but it is annoying. I even loosened the compressor bolts and shoved it as far forward as I could, but that probably netted me a millimeter, not enough to make a difference.
The compressor mount seemed tight also.
Gotta be the tensioner right?

Basic cleaning and pictures
Washed the old girl off and gave the interior a wipe down. Took a bunch of pictures, which I posted in my profile album. Took pictures of all the problem areas so you guys can hopefully guide me on how to address them all. I really don't know what to start with or what really needs to be done.
This was my dad's daily driver, he can no longer drive, so I would like to do right for the old girl. I'm sure the truck is stock, it has been repainted once, but the paint is starting to have some issues. The trim molding and window seals are in bad shape.
I'm new here but look forward to learning from you guys and hopefully can get or keep this old girl running!

Welcome Taylorm2121 to the board.....nice looking truck and great that you have some family history with it. Maybe start a separate thread about your truck to keep all the suggestions and info in one place.

Filled the power steering pump and gearbox last night and got to drive her to work today. I am quite pleased with the results. No more wandering all over the road. No more trying to anticipate which way the truck is going to lurch when I hit the brakes. Just nice steady, straight stopping and driving. :grin2:
