Thanks. It’s been fun, challenging and I’ve had a few swear words, but it’s been worth it. I hope I can buy a home before winter, then I can start doing the body, paint and interior again. The hard thing is, I’m picking up a new project next Saturday

Made a pair of battery cables for my new 3000-watt inverter, made them using 8 feet of 2/0 welding cable connects directly to my rear battery bank, now I need to find a 300 amp ANL fuse to protect it, using a 200-amp for now.
Now on my way to Cummins Pacific in Downey to get a rectangular gasket for my fuel heater.
Yes, they are open till 11;00 P.M.

A decision is upon me.
Spoke to the local powder coating company today regarding my truck.
Rebuild my rear brakes again, using Chinese drums and hardware, ultimately having them delaminate again from inside the metal, or switch to rear discs.
I am specifically asking those (such as Mark who have already done this.
Reason? Throwing good money after bad.
I spent a lot of $$ rebuilding my rear drums and now they are nearly toast again. In order to redo again, these Chinese brake drums are going to be replaced. They are rotting from within the metal of,the drum due to poor material during manufacture. They are Raybestos.
$400 on new drums alone (and having them powder coated for better resistance) or do I invest a more and get disc setup? Something that performs, and will not be subject to this rotting away in 4 years.
Mark, how much was was your swap? Anyone else who did,theirs? Trying to weigh the cost vs benefit ratio.

NJTman, I live by a saying when it comes to building cars: “FAST, CHEAP, RELIABLE.... you can only pick 2 out of 3”. My vote, if you can afford it, is to buy the best that you can and be done with it. Going overboard on drivetrain and brakes is ALWAYS a good thing. If it were me, I’d do the disc swap. I still want to put the 05-10 superduty axles under my truck with 4 wheel discs. The axles are much more stout and the brakes are huge. I’ll have to run a minimum of a 17” wheel to clear the brakes, but good brakes save lives.

Getting ready for a long night of work, after work. Replacing the snap rings in my transfer case, dropping the borrowed unit out, replacing the extension housing and then putting everything back together with my original case.

As you probably remember, I went the EGR kit route, which was a bit pricey at around 700 bucks. I believe that the kit that includes the P-brake is around 800 dollars now. It requires no welding, except the flange that retains the rubber hose to hard line can and probably should be welded to the axle. You can probably piece a kit together somewhat cheaper. Another option is, as you may recall, I still have the entire drum setup, with all the bits, with very few miles on them which we can talk about. Here is the egr wep page for Dodge:
