What all could cause stiff column shifter?

My 93 has a very stiff column shifter. What are the usual suspects and what can I do about them?

I would look under truck and check the linkage going from Frame to trans and also the column has a rod that goes to trans check n spray lube thoses places and see if it get's better .

It could also be your transmission linkage binding internally.

Just incase you didn't think about it, be sure to chock your wheels before you mess with your transmission linkage so there is no chance of running yourself over.

When mine started doing that it was the rooster comb in the tranny. Kept getting harder until finally the comb just broke. Now it slides through all the ranges without a catch. Not safe unless you watch what you are doing...

You (or who) installed a new tranny without checking the linkage for sticking?

Easy way to quickly wreck the transmission.

I see you're not in the rust belt but around here the cab/body mounts can rot away and let the body sag or drop down and can cause binding on column linkage.

My '80 Power Wagon plow truck has such a rotten cab the auto shifter is hard to get to park, and it tough to shift gears with.
It is because the shifter linkage is pinch / bind under the cab and frame.
I am guessing that is not your problem.
I will push snow with mine till in quits running, but it is just a rusty beater with a heater.

My '80 PW plow truck cab is basically wrapped over the frame.
It has no front cab mounts, and just a little floorboard.
When I push snow too hard into a snow bank the whole cab moves.
I think the fenders ,hood and front clip are basically helping to hold the cab in place.
It is just a yard truck only, but being an old Dodge you can't stop it.
I bought for basically the price of scrap steel last summer, and after a several hours of work, it pushed snow all winter for me....maybe next winter too.

I pulled the linkage loose at the tranny. The tranny shift arm shifts smoothly, The shift lever and linkage moves freely. So I loosened the locking bolt and put the tranny in park and the column shifter in park, ajusted the end that goes into the tranny shift arm and tightened the bolt. But the shift INDICATOR is WAY off. How do I adjust the indicator?

It's connected by a little piece of string. Guess you could shorten/lengthen that but doubt that that is where the slack is. I mean I can't see that little piece of string shrinking or stretching.
