I did the same thing.. I got a conversion kit from Kragen, which is basically 2 new fittings ( 134 are larger than 12) that screw ontop of the old ones, some R134 and a gauge/gun to install it. THink it was like 40 bucks.

Worked ok for me

Edit>> You do need to take the R12 out, cant add 134 on top of it.

Well I had a my condensor out when I re-did the truck, so would it be good, Or do I have to hook a air hose up and blow out the lines?? I think I will try and get the fittings and just wing it.. My buddy might even have the fittings??

I did the same thing, removed the condenser when I had it down for paint..
I had a set of harbor freight gauges and a vaccum pump, so I ran that before the "kit" to check for leaks since the AC didnt work when I got it.

Im not an expert, but I believe you want a vaccum in the system so the refigerant has more room to flow in ( as apposed to 14.1 of air or whatver the atmosphere is)

Not sure how critical that step is..

I have heard that AC shops will do this for free, since the R12 is worth so much.

Some expert a/c people say to change out the o-rings, some say o-rings and dryer, ect. I have a 1982 Pete that only had the R12 bled out "enviromental safe way" and a 12 hr. vacuum pulled on it with a old refrigerant compressor used for a vac system. That was 3 years ago and I used it today ambient temp was only 84 but it was blowing 48 out the vents. To me a/cs are a pain but I manage to fix them myself. Good luck with your a/c.

80-85% of the R12 rating as I recall.. Mine was 41 as printed on the sticker in the engine compartment, so 41 of R12 or 34-35 oz of R134.

Here is the FAQ for the kit I used,

Interdynamics R134 kit

The manual says after a complete evacuation of the system, you need 44 oz's of r12(2 1/2 lbs).

Are you sure that is for the CTD's ? (again referencing the sticker), it says 44 oz for gas, 41oz for diesel.

There isn't anything in the manual about the CTD(in the ac section) to suggest that there is any differance between a gasser or the diesel. I just read the whole section, and checked capacities, but there isn't a listing in there for the refrigerant. I'll check my sticker on my ruck to see what that says.
