Air in the system? Thats what happened after i replaced the fuel filter on our 91, it would just crank over visciously, Hit the lift pump primer a few times and kept cranking it 5 seconds at a time and BOOM, fired right up

Not really a TBI guy, but I was bone tired of dealing with the MC2100 (carb) I'd run for years. Swapping the TBI (onto an AMC engine) wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done... but I sure LOVED the rewards of it on the trail!

This one? While the trail/video ain't much, the engine stayed running the ENTIRE time! That would have equated to dozens of cut-offs & hard flooded starts with the carb and all the bounces she took that day.

I just installed a Holley blue with the supplied regulator...same problem! I raised the idle a little, seemed to help while idling...as soon as I shut it off it won't restart. What gives? I died on me in Sonoyta, Mexico on Sunday thats why I did the blue, now I have the same issue, gotta have it running for work tomorrow!
If I crack the injector lines it will start up pretty easily, shut it of and I need the half throttle to get it going again. The IP is only about 6 months old, I hope it hasn't gotten damaged becaue of the old filter/jacked up lift pump?

Runs significantly better when cold... where ya going with this?

Also, has been dubbed the slowest Cummins ever by several knowledgable CTD folk... no doubt aided by what I believe is a cooked/DOA torque convertor.

Next time it doesn't start hot, pour some water on the VE and try it again. If that does the trick, your injection pump is toast.

ACE... haven't had an opportunity to get her all warm and try the H2O cooling when no start is encountered, BUT hope to take her out this weekend. Assuming cooling it down DOES work... which area(s) or component group(s) of the IP does this "overheating" point to?

Not that I'd consider tearing into the IP myself to save a few hundred $ I don't have or anything...

If cold water makes it start the distributor head and plunger are worn.

Thanks Wanna! Seems like between the low idle when warm & the water cooling it down (didn't make it out this weekend). What's the best recourse if this is the case?

DIY Rebuild/reseal?
Pro rebuild?
Trade it for a remanned?

Would the symptoms be the same *IF* it's sucking air somewhere? Is BK's method (plumbing in a glass filter housing) the best way to diagnose *that* end of it?

While I don't drive it much, I'd like to get it rectified so it doesn't turn into a "Maxx250" episode & leave me stranded in BFE!

Swap for a reman is probably the best way to go for most folks.

Generally when they are sucking in air they will be hard to start after sitting for a few hours and then run like crap until the air works out.

I'm partial to using a section of clear line myself.
