Wastegate & Boost Problem

I had a stringer pluss installed a month ago. With the waste gate hooked up I'm only getting 11psi of boost. I'm sure I can adjust the w/gate. Without the w/gate hooked up I'm still only getting around 17psi according to my gauge. I checked my gauge with a fuel pressure gauge (all I had) which also reads in psi and they were the same. According to banks the w/gate is supposed to engauge at 21psi.

Is there an easy way to adjust the boost?

Do I really need the wastegate?

I'm pretty new.

Thanks

I get 11psi if the wastegate is connected, otherwise I get 17psi

the wastegate shouldn't be dumping the boost at that low of psi. If it was working correctly you should be getting atleast 17psi with it connected as well

Something doesn't sound right with your wastegate. Is it the Banks model? Does anybody know if they are adjustable? 17psi sounds good, 11 doesn't. Providing that your gauge is accurate, maybe there's a leak in the boost line feeding the gauge. How's the power/smoke?

Its a banks and it is adjustable. The only smoke I get is when I first start it, after it warms up there' no smoke.

If there is a way to adjust it, definitely start there. Beyond that, look for boost leaks in the system..you'd notice some smoke if you had a boost leak. Turning up the fuel is always a good idea , but make sure you have any issues sorted out before tweeking away at that pump.

I'm not very good at posting my replies. It smokes when I first fire it up a little, when it warms up it quits.

They all smoke on startup, so no worries there. I was more wondering about smoke when you mash the pedal and run her up to speed. Excessive black smoke while running through the gears can indicate a boost leak...or it can mean all systems go on a heavily modded truck

When I mash through the gears to about 70mph I don't see any black smoke, so I think I'm good there,

Yup, sounds good. Is the exhaust housing the Banks model as well? Sounds like you just need to tune your wastegate, like you originally said...if it is in fact adjustable. If it isn't, there's something wrong with it, since it seems to be opening at 11psi. Being moderately fueled, you may as well leave the boost line off the wastegate untill you can figure the problem out.

The exhaust housing is banks. I've disconnected the wastegate. I think turning up the fuel will be my first step. Thanks everyone for your help.
