Wastegate

I have an hx40 with 16cm waste gate housing but the waste gate is just unplugged will it pop open if left not hooked up? Also I am seeing about 20 lbs of boost with it, is there something I can do to get more out of it? I was seeing about 30 out of the h1c with 21cm housing. Any suggestions are appreciated thanx

Why not hook the wastegate up? Or tack it closed.

Are you saying the gate controller is unplugged or the gate is unhooked?

With it unhooked it will allow the exhaust to bypass the turbine and you will have trouble getting any boost.

With a big housing they didn't use a controller or wastegate because there wasn't enough 'motor' to over speed it. So they went to smaller housing to get it spoolled quicker and a gate to control overspeeding it.

There is no vacum line or anything going to the actuator the actuator is hooked to the gate.

Sounds like you're not fueling hard enough to push any more than 20psi, however, check that the spring in the actuator is strong by trying to manually cycle the rod. Without a boost reference to the actuator, drive pressure inside the turbine housing will eventually push the gate open against the spring. Hard to determine what psi that will be though. As was suggested, temporarily hold the gate closed with some mechanics wire and go for a drive.

The spring in the canister is weak. With the pressure you were pushing with the H1C. You should be close to the same with the HX40.

Wire the gate shut and see what happens.

Start checking the system for leaks. I bet you find some.

It is not a vacuum line!! It is manifold pressure.

I wouls guess you don't have enough fuel to get more boost. Is there still smoke with it WO and reving?
