Vibrations after front end work. Obvious culprits?

Hey guys,

Just did new front rotors, pads, calipers, wheel seals, and universals in the front end a few weeks back in the dually. Didn't drive the truck much for a bit, then just been driving it exlusively the last few days. It's vibrating pretty hard and now I'm starting to see my almost new tires scallop. Tires have less than 3K miles on them and had an allignment when put on. No wheel weights seem to be missing.

It didn't vibrate like this when I drove it up from SC to Maine when I bought it, nor did it after I got the new tires

Any suggestions of common problems after taking that front end apart some? I'm running with the hubs free. Thanks

-Luke

I would start by jacking the front end up and making sure that everything is tight. Other than an alignment issue, or a balance issue, the spring bushings can cause a lot of strange front end issue's when they wear out, like a death wobble.

Get the front end off the ground and check everything they touched.
Anything loose, bent, or warped will get thing shaking.

I am curious if I accidentally turned a shaft 180 when doing the U joints, but they shouldn't be spinning when I'm running the front end free right? Also, when the truck is going slower like... .20-35mph, the truck seems to "bounce" rhythmically. Obviously shocks aren't helping, but it's definately almost hopping. Strange....

After I get my old Ford out of the garage I just sold to my brother inlaw, I'll put the dually in and start shaking on stuff I guess. Funny thing is that it was fine just before I took everything apart, so a wear item doesn't seem to fit unless it's just coincidence.

Just an update for anyone searching this. I solved the problem. the dually wheels are not centered since they have flanged lug nuts, and it's not hub centric. I got 2 cone shaped 5/8" lug nuts, centered the wheels, then tightned the other 6 flanged lugnuts up. Removed the conical ones and put on the last 2 flanged style, then repeat on other side. Vibration gone!

Should have left the conical nuts on it so they dont get knocked off center again

I'm glad you said that, .... I did that all around and while it looks a bit uneven I'll never need to look for my two centering nuts when I reinstall a wheel.

Napa had them.... $3.12 I believe. I had to coax them into looking for them. Don't bother telling them to look it up by the truck. Just tell them you want 5/8", conical lug nuts and that it's not an aftermarket part or anything. I believe they had it in their own Napa catalogue. The first time I went in they told me they didn't have them. Then I found out otherwise online. Went back in and they STILL said they didn't have them. I convinced them to look harder, and sure enough!

YES. They will knock off with rough roads. I have 4 now, and will leave 2 on each front wheel for now on.

Make sure to put them on a concave part of the coined wheels, not the convex section. They want to be sucked in to the concave part.
