We have really bad street maintenance here and every winter the holes and bumps get worse. Whevever a pothole develops they fill it in and leave a big bump in it's place. The bumps are worse than the holes because my dually footprint is usually bigger than the hole.

I put Rancho RS 9000's (set all the way stiff) on and it helped quite a bit, but the ride is still bone jarring over speed bumps and pot holes....

Did many things to smooth the ride, went to a spring shop, had two springs removed and adjusted others, put on Rancho 9000's, put on velvet rides, finally Kelderman Air rides, bottom line not appreciably better than before, sorry.

I think what really might help these old trucks is putting longer leafs in the rear. Maybe some 63" long springs out of a late model chevy truck. They are soft enough though you will most likely need to run a traction bar with them.
If you are going to do any fabrication though might as well build a link setup with coils if you want a smooth ride.
