That's all they figured you'd need from 750-2500 RPM.

Remember that advancing injection timing increases particulates and NOx emissions, and emissions reduction is what has driven the factory tuning of these engines since day one.

Well that would be the "base" timing. The tool I made requires the pump to be mocked up on the bench with no advance spring installed, it measures the actual advance in crankshaft degrees allowed by the internal advance assembly by attaching to the roller ring in the pump.

FWIW, 2mm off of the advance piston is an improvement, but something much more radical is in order for my competition pump.

So just how much more timing does this allow? I think I may have to jump my injector gear another tooth to compensate.

So where to the letters on the pump gear come into play? I noticed when I pulled my pump that the gear was lined up to the "0" on the cam gear and an "E" on the pump gear. There were other letters on it too, and I wonder what those mean, as far as timing goes.

They are for other pumps.
