Upgrading Questions... ?

I've been looking into mods for my 93 dodge 3/4 ton which I thought I had pretty well laid out. I had my own selection of injecters, springs, exhaust and whatever. Well I'm explaining this to someone and they happened to say something like 'Putting an upgrade on a truck that age with that amount of milage will burn it up... it wont last'. So now I'm thinking hrm, is he right? With about 300 000kms I never really put much thought into it but will power upgrades hurt my truck? I'm quite looking forward to adding a few extra punds of torque and a little extra horse so let me know if I really will run into problems here...

300,000kms = what? 100 something thousand miles?
you should be fine. with exhaust and minimal fuel probably help out the longevity of the truck. IMO jiMMy

If the engine is sound you will not shorten its life. If it's in bad shape, it's gonna blow up anyway - might as well have fun doing it. That mileage (kilometerage? ) is not very high for a Cummins anyway. Think of it as 300 gigameters.

Check my 97 descript. This was stock until 235,000 mi. Runs great. Pulls like a different truck. If it blows, put another engine in!

IMO if you increase the output of a motor you will shorten it's life. The harder you push it the shorter it's life. That said I always increase the power of my motors if possible. It is worth it to me.

So what if turning it up more may shorten its life. The motor is good for a million miles between overhauls. Even if it "only" lasts to 700k, thats more miles than I will ever put on mine. I drive mine like I stole it and I haven't had any more trouble than guys with a stocker. Just keep up on the maintenence. Even if it were to blow, another motor is alot cheaper than a new truck.

I have also noticed that by doing some slight mods (tweak pump, advance timing, better exhaust) to the motor, you acutally use less motor (power) to do what you need it to do. I do not use that much throttle do get going, to pull stuff, even on the highway, less throttle.

Now, there does come a point where the slight mods lead into more mods (Full DTT, more tweaking to pump, bigger exhaust, bigger injectors, smaller turbo) and then the truck really wakes up and then it seems like I just can't keep my right foot from being so light anymore and it gets real heavy all the time. That is when you leave those other trucks behind in a cloud of smoke.

I would say, BOMB it.
