I was wondering why the HELP packets at NAPA and O'rileys have one of each size in their bubble packs. I know when I went home to install them, I accidentally used the larger of one on the wrong side, and it could hardly thread right in.
I didn't get mine from the help rack. I had them look it up. It was a box with the strap and 2 bolts. I don't know if I would heat the joint but I would for sure soak it with WD-40 or your favorite thread loosener liquid.

Two sized bolts? Odd. Don't remember that but will pay attention and see.

I have to run to Lexington today to pickup a bed. I'll soak the bolts before I go and grease the heck out of the joint again. Pick up new bolts while in town.

Then work on replacement again Monday if the world doesn't end.

Got the replacement bots from O'Reilly's, all the same size. Buggered up the stuck ones, had to use the extractor.

Hope to get it all back together before Friday.

Manuals don't mention any blue locktight when reinstalling. You guys ever do that?

Yes, always for me with the locktight.

What is the advantage of a U-bolt style yoke? What is involved in changing out the yokes?

TIA.

Well I finally got the driveshaft back in and went for a test drive. All seems well. No little clink anymore when I shift into gear or from forward to reverse and vice versa. Amazing how such a minor bit of place, hardly noticable, makes such an annoying noise.

Will have to wait and install the carrier and the u-joint at the tranny when I get back. It should be delivered tomorrow.

BTW, anybody know what kind of grease Spicer uses in those u-joints?

Definitely Spicer Life for non greasable; not weakened by cross drilling, and they are so well made they actually weigh the grease into each cap - so make sure each cap goes in its correct place. I've broken good quality Neapco greasables, won't use anything else other than Spicer Life.

I've pulled a few that have been in severe service, and the grease inside had no water ingress through the seals.

Do it all, and balance both shafts. Just a bit better than rolling them across the floor :-)

Some more part numbers for a stock application - (you can upgrade to bigger yokes & joints too)

Front axle - Spicer Life SPL-553-X two
Front shaft - Front Joint - Spicer Life 5-811X one
Front shaft (CV)- Center & Rear Joint - Spicer Life 5-795X - one each
Front shaft CV Joint kit - Spicer Life - 211009X - one
Rear shaft - Front & Rear - Spicer Life 5-1410x (and 3-70-28X - two piece ds)
Dana/Spicer part# 42449 front diff pinion seal

Clamping strength of a U-bolt out weighs the strap style. Less chances of stripping threads out. I believe in the strap style those straps must be replaced when replacing the u- joints.
What involved are an 1 1/8" impact socket and an impact drill to remove the yoke hold down bolts, then a two or three jaw puller to pull the yoke out. You'll need new pinion yoke seals for any yoke you change out.
Those u- bolt style yokes are $$, but you get what you pay for. The two that are at each end of the rear driveline are $100/each, and the one at the Dana60 was like $45-$55.
Again, these were part numbers from partsmike.com. You may find them somewhere else for a few bucks less, but I doubt it

For anyone who is considering adding this to their front, just remember it WILL NOT WORK with the existing slip yoke that is at the front driveline, and there is no aftermarket replacement slip yoke to buy that will work with the factory spline count that came on the Dodge shaft. You will have to take your drive line to a specialty shop and have them cut and weld on a yoke onto your slip to accept the 1350 U-Joint. Papecat and a few others warned me about this early on, and I stubbornly scoured all over the net trying to find one that would replace the factory slip yoke. None to be found.
Or, you can just leave it the way it is, and stay with a strap on yoke. I could have done the same, but I already converted the rear driveline and already purchased that yoke for the front.

The one on my front is a spicer 1310 strap type I need to get the slip yoke on the driveline changed to match. For now i will get a n adapter joint.
