I heard one the other day about backing a truck to Birmingham. Gotta love the XM. Lots of good truckin' country. Six Days On the Road (Dave Dudley) is one of the best though. "I got my diesel wound up and she's a runnin' like never before" and "There's a flame from the stack and the smoke's blowing black as coal". Gives me goosebumps!
OK, back on topic: I think I could turn this around in about the same space as my truck.
We have a little low profile Ford medium duty at work, wheelbase is about the same as my Dodge. That little truck will do a U-turn on a standard width street - the straight axle gives a real tight turning radius. We used to have an F-Super Duty, that thing was like a go-kart.

Fell to shooting the bull with a retired Marine aviator today. He said he loved the F-4, but it "took the better part of four counties to turn it around".
I guess everything's relative.

I went under mine and adjusted the stops to allow minimum turning radius. These old trucks can turn sharper to the left than they can to the right because the left front tire will hit the pitman arm. If you have oversized tires or an extended chassis you are stuck with needing a foot ball field to turn around. You can always install a Detroit Locker and a line lock.
I got my front end aligned today, and the alignment shop was concerned that the truck turned tighter one way then the other. Nice explanation from Boatnik about the reason for that.

Thanks Moojpg2 for digging this on out of the archives, very relevant for my truck today.

I hate the tight parking spots. The local Fleet Farm store has the whole lot striped for rice burners. Accidentally ran over one. (She's got wide hips) That got expensive.

They are definatly making parking lots and spaces for the smaller foreign cars, I complain everyday when I try to get into a parking space, the outside of each dual is over the line.
I am constantly having people drag their butts over my rear fenders, also it seems like my truck is about 2 feet longer than the other cars.

Try turning a W250 with a lift, using the stock steering with nothing but a drop pitman makes your turning to the right even worse!! my truck sucks at right turns

My W250 turns better than I thought it would when I got it. I always pull past a parking spot at an angle then back up and then pull into the spot. Makes it way easier and with proper setup it's quick.

They are building parking lots and residences smaller. Good idea with calling the city about fire trucks! They have to address that! I normally always take up 2 parking spots with my W250 club cab and pretty much expect to park at the far end of the lots so city slickers don't get upset about it. (no offense you city slickers...)

The crossover definitely makes it easier but it still doesn't turn like my Tundra. I would always hook my boat to it when I needed to back it into my driveway or into the garage at my old apartment. Could put a 23' boat in the drive without hitting the grass or the curb on a standard width street in one try. Those things turn crazy sharp!
