Turbo/Injector Choice - Decisions, Decisions....
I have posted several times in the past about injectors & turbos/upgrades and what would best meet my needs. Since then I have finally saved enough to begin my upgrades. I have one goal in mind - to make my truck the best pulling 1st gen it can possibly be.
I am not interested in wining any races, I want it to pull like a train without having to keep a close eye on the pyro. Right now I am having a hard time keeping up with my business partner.
We are both hauling around 22K and him in a stock '06 Cummins 6spd (atleast I am getting out-pulled by another Cummins!). We travel long distances delivery hay, so highway top-end is a must.
I understand this desire will more than likely fall outside the benefits of the standard HTT Stave IV turbo upgrade and stock injectors, so I am interested in everyone's opinion on what the best Turbo/Injector setup would be. I don't want to say cash is not a problem, because I don't want to spend more on a turbo & injectors than the current value of the truck, but like I said, I want it to pull as best as it possibly can.
I am currently leaning towards the HTB2 Series, but have no clue on the injector side of the house. Any and all input is appreciated.
Thanks!

The EDM's I'm running would work well if you kept the pump settings mild. I would not recommend POD's, and 190's will be kinda on the small side.
HTB2 is a good choice on the turbo.

do you have any fabrication skills? maybe a budget set of twins to keep things cool? hx-35 ($200-$300) and HT3B ($500) plus some injectors.... should be able to tune that in pretty good. no idea what a HTB2 costs.

With the set-up that I have you can keep up with just about anything on the highway. But, if you put your foot in it you will bury a 1600 pyro in a few seconds. As long as you keep an eye on the temps.and the go pedal. It is a great set-up. The low end power is unbelievable.

I liked my POD's when I had my '92. The smoke was there when I wanted it, it was controllable. The power was there when I needed it, and it still got great mileage. No complaints.

+1 on the PODs.
I tow with mine a lot. No heat issues with my truck, but my pump is set conservatively. It tows at least as good as my 2002 HO with mods did and no electronic gizmos to worry about like that truck had.

DDP 3's with a super phat shaft 62. As long as you keep the rpms up she will stay cool. Ive got 355's and 33's, I only shift into 5th in the flat. Its a little easier on the getrag. My truck will out pull a 97 5speed with a PS 62 and numerious fueling mods. And its got 410 gears and 215 tires. O and my pump is maxed, shes got everything but the AFC lever ground.

Persoanlly I'd rather have "more" then less so I would go with DDP stage 4's with maybe even a HTB2 64/12. I talk to a guy that does towing with a 64/12 and it seems he could go even bigger although he has a 3rd gen. Persoanlly I think it would be a good combination give your fuel pump a couple turns and it shouldn't take long to be able to spool it.

More gears is always better. In your case you might want to consider a gear vendors OD then you don't have to run the tranny OD all the time and the 518 will really like that. Also, I can't speak form experience but take a look at the bomber turbos that piers sell. If I had the coin that's what I would get. That is unless else somebody has something bad to say about them.
