Truck died and won't start???

A friend of a friend was driving his non i/c truck the other day and he said it was like it just shut off. I went and looked at it and I found I had fuel to the filter base and fuel to the nozzles. Truck runs off of ether so the base engine should be ok. I'm supposed to go and look at it again tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any input? The VE has been replaced somewhat recently and I was wondering if you all thought it could be in the pump or pump timing? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check the wire that attaches to the fuel shutdown selonoid at the back of the pump. They are known to lose connection and cause the truck to stall out and not restart.

I have 12v with key on and assume that is correct. If the shutdown solenoid was failed I should't have fuel at the nozzles, right?

Yea that is true i wasnt thinking. But if you have fuel like you should at the injectors it should run. With the engine off if you supply 12v to the fss can you hear it clicking? Maybe you have some fuel there but just not enough for it to run.

Have not checked, but I will tomorrow. Is the ip shaft keyed to the gear?

It should be. It is possible that whoever did the pump didn't put it in.

Yes there is a woodruff key between the IP shaft and the timing gear. When I hurt my IP I had some fuel at the injectors, just not enough to fire it. I agree with the others, check the FSS, and if you can pop it out and remove the plunger, then you know the IP is getting fuel. Then crack the injectors adn if your getting a good "squirt" at the fittings, then it should fire.
