This will tell you if the trans is working properly and if it does then a sensor is holding it up somewhere. Will the truck start if the shifter is in drive or reverse?

I would never swap to a manual but that is just my .02 by the time you spend the money for a complete swap and a good clutch you could have a good built auto. Did you ground the selinoid and see if the trans shifts into od. If the selonoid is bad that don't mean you need a trans rebuild.

There should be an orange wire coming out of the tranny. When it has ground applied to it, the tranny should shift into OD.
On my old truck I finally got sick of the OD BS and mounted an old style floor mounted dimmer switch on the floor. One end of the switch went to ground, the other end went to the orange wire on the tranny. When I wanted OD I simply clicked the floor switch with my foot and the tranny went into OD, everytime. Trick was to remember to kick it out when coming to a stop. I added a light on the dash to remind me.
You could use this to test the tranny's OD. Extend the orange wire from the tranny into the cab, run it thru a switch to ground, go for a drive and flip the switch. If it goes into OD then the tranny is fine, if it doesn't then there is a problem in the tranny.
