Transfer case

When I shift int reverse I get a clunking sound from the transfer case area. Also the drive line turns about 1/8 turn before it loads up on the rear end. I have installed all new u joints a few months ago and a new carrier barring also at the same time. If it is the transfer case what would be the cost of a rebuild and can I do it myself?

Limited slip in mine. It may be the rear but the sound comes from the t case. No noise from the rear just did a gear oil change a few months back and looked inside everything looked ok in the rear end.

Greg, have you checked your pinion bearing? I imagine that bearing see's a lot of abuse from torque over the years.

Drive shafts have a nasty habbit of transfering noise from one end to the other.
