Dodger - If mounted below the axle...they push back.
Thus 'compression' on the bars.

The axle moves forward and aft a bit with suspension travel.

Only if you DON'T have enough compression. I do two full turns on my bars, from the no pressure position and even if my tank gets lower than normal.... mine never loosen up!

Has any one done this to a extended cab? I checked and my fuel tank goes allot further making the rods longer or I have to drop the fuel tank to keep them at a shorter length.
