hey-Hey!!!,
I will be in the market for a new 727 converter shortly. Goerend hasn't been spoken of poorly to my knowlege. I'm looking for the tightest, lowest slip I can get for the 1991 I am resurrecting.
cheers,
Douglas

Wondering if BD Diesel is any good. They sure talk the talk. I just think I'd prefer to go with on with a steel stator.

I have a goerand. I couldn't be happier with it. I talked to him, told him how I used the truck, and that I wanted the tightest converter they have. He told me he wouldn't recommend that converter for my application. I was a bit sceptical until he explained why.
I have a 518 with a 3.07 rear gear, and taller(19.5) tires. He explained to me that my crusing rpm would be borderline to supply the trans with the volume/pressures it would need because of the small pump in the 518. The later lockup transmissions have a larger pump that can supply the volume/pressure the rest of the trans needs to live with low rpm and lockup. Anyway, I'm glad I listened to him. The new converter is exactly what I needed and as always is said, It feels like a different truck. And the "loose" converter he sold me feels tighter than I expected the "tight" one to be! It's hard to put a value on knowledge. I wouldn't hesistate to buy from goerand again.

Goerend here as well.....As mentioned above, TOTALLY different truck now. Customer service is excellent selling point IMHO.

When I do anything with the trans, it'll be through goerend. I don't remember who it was on this forum but they ran the 1/4mile in the high 13s. Changed only their trans (rebuilt it and put a goerend converter in) and gained a whole half second in the 1/4 mile. Plus all the good things I've heard about goerend. I'm fairly sold on going with them.

No first hand experience yet though, sorry.

There's only so many different ways you can make one part. So really just go with the cheapest one between the big name brands and go with it.

It's like how Cherry bomb copied flowmaster's design of mufflers, but cherry bombs are 1/2 the cost and everyone buys them because of that. you snooze you lose.

And so I'd wonder if I was getting what used to be known as a Japanese copy or a Chinese copy.

rockjeep73 (Whether Cole himself or his brother) ran a 12.xx on a P-pumped Cummins with a A518. He has Spec-Rite. They are decently priced and obviously hold up. The Dow brothers both swear by them.

perfect example ^ Spec rite is not a name you hear often...also knew a local guy by the name of c12h26 on here and he ran a 13.2 in a mostly stock 90 d250 with an ATI converter....

I talked to a local converter builder, he builds converters in his garage mainly for local racers etc.....and he said if the converters in these trucks are anything like every other mopar converter, they are a joke inside and he can tighten one up and do all the upgrades for like $350 right there in his shop.....i told him about companies charging $950 and he said that's insane, he can see that cost for a triple disc since the discs are the main cost.....he seems like a cool dude and if we ever get a core converter we are gonna let him cut it open and see what he can do. He's never been into a non lockup cummins converter before, but has been in non lockup ford 7.3 converters and cummins lockups

It's called "the converter company" in woodbury, NJ
