Top Speed with a 727?
I've got the 3.07 gears and 33" tires. No tach so no idea on RPMs, but what should my top speed be running the highway. Seems like 60 is about it and I feel I'm gonna get run over going that slow. Thoughts?

3.07's and 33's should have you moving at a pretty good clip.... With 4.10's and stock tires on my second gen I can do 75 at 2200-2400 rpm...
I'm guessing the 727 doesn't have overdrive? Even without overdrive, 3.07's and 33's should make up that differenec from my 4.10's easily.

I might be wrong, but I calculate 64 at 2000 rpm output. 10% "slip" and it's at 2200 rpm.
Tight torque converter and governor mods and you can fly. Stock ya might get run over.

Mine will do between 75 and 80 with the stock governor spring.
Depends on tire diameter gearing and governed RPM.

I had mine 90-95 with my air conditioner on, 366 governor spring and new Michellin tires, it handled rock solid better than at low speeds.
Throttle was no where near the floor so I could have gone a bit faster.

Sorry, this has nothing to do with the thread , but I am wondering about your screen name, are you a fireman? My favorite job on the fd was as tillerman, the guy on the back of a ladder with his own steering wheel. I am guessing either fireman or farmer...Mark

We've had numerous 727 trucks here at the house with 235/85 tires that would do 100mph with a 3200 governor spring mod and throttle linkage adjusted for full travel

I guess I should reword my original question. I am not so concerned with a "TOP" speed, but poll as to what everyone's average/reasonable cruising speed is. For me to run 55 I can average about 22mpg, but at 65 I drop to 17-18mpg. It seems like any speed over 60 just seems like the engine is turning high rpms.
