Top end tick

Ever since I bought my truck 7 years ago. The engine has had a noticeable tick. I'm pretty sure it's in the top end. It's never affected anything, it's always started and ran fine. I've never looked at the timing but I had the valves adjusted a while ago with only a little improvement Could it be the timing or could it be worse? Even if it's worse ill probably end up driving it anyways. Lol

Yes could be to much timming, injector leakingor as bad as a burnt piston. My first non I/c truck was turned up and didn't know it upon pulling my boat it overheated and soon after. Developed a tick stayed the same for a while and finally pulled the head and could not see any problems. So dug in deeper and found #6 piston burnt the rings were literally part of the piston. And from then on every truck stock or not gets a pyro !

Mine had never been touched until I got it. But it ticked before that. It didn't even have a trailer hitch when I got it so there's a good chance it never really got abused by a big trailer and high rpm. I bought it from the original owner who was about 70 when he bought it new

Wait... This has been happening for seven years, has never affected anything, and you're still worrying about? It's probably just valve/tappet noise.

Yeah, if it's been doing it for 7 years and hasn't "clearanced" itself yet it's probably nothing or it's done all the damage it's going to do.

That's code for these motors are noisy. They weren't designed with creature comforts in mind.

Basically the sounds the tappets, pushrods, rockers and valves make as everything is getting slammed together and opening/closing etc.

The lift pump can tick too as it rides on the cam lobe. My second gen piston pump ticks pretty good at idle usually.
