Bearing splitter(s), good snap-ring pliers, depth mic. or at least a good set of calipers, brass punches.

Probably some others, but that's what comes to mind.

do the snap rings have holes in them, or are they the "hole-less" kind?

i want to be sure i am well prepared before getting it apart

Just a regular sized splitter. I think they have 5/8" all-thread on them and roughly 6" wide. I can't remember if they were any of the "holeless" ones or not. I know we did ours with out that kind of pliers, so they must be easy to get at, if it has them.
