toe adjust help
All;
I will be adjusting my toe setting sometime this week, on my W250. I have the Harbor Freight tie rod adjusters: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=95732
Just to refresh my memory on adjusting the tie rod - do I un-loosen the bolts on the ends of the rod (before the ball joints), then use the adjusters on the ball joint ends? Do I need to use a pipe wrench to turn the tie rod, in conjunction with using the HF adjusters to hold the ball joint ends?
I have the concept of setting wheel alignment; from various posts on the web, as well as on the HAMB (If your into hot rods, I am sure you know of the HAMB site)

heres how I adjust my toe, loosen left and right ball joints, you want to adjust it
so you have an 1/8" toe in, at freeway speed you will be dead on, to do this measure the center to center of the front tires at the 9:00 position and 3:00
position, turn your tie rod with a pipe wrench keep measuring till you get it
toe in 1/8" tighten everything up, remeasure to make sure it didnt change on you, and your done, captcavy

I just used a pair of Visegrips in the center. I need to double check mine before I put the new tires on. The measuring of the front and back of the tires works pretty good for me.

The adjusters you showed are designed to hook into the sleeves. Vise grips can be used too, I've done it that way myself. Loosen the pinch bolts on the sleeves and you should be able to turn the sleeves if things aren't too rusty (yeah, right). It's liable to require a lot of penetrating oil and maybe even some heat to get them moving.

when I replaced my rod ends I had to heat them up good before they started to come off. It might be easier to take the whole thing off the truck and take the rod ends out and antiseeze everything up if you have not allready.
