Timing Problem / Injection Pump

I just finished resealing my injection pump and added a M&H timing spacer while I was in there. I reassembled everything and started the truck. While its running, its smokes heavily out of the exhaust (White smoke) and rattles way more than and old Powerstroke Ford. I rotated the pump (away from the head) and it helped it a little. My questions are, could the pump gear have jumped a couple teeth causing the timing to advance or could the spacer be causing me this trouble? I did not remove the front gear cover. After resealing the pump, I rotated the pump to line up with the gear. I'm getting ready to remove the timing spacer but don't want to waste my time if its a pump/gear timing issue.

Thanks
Mike

Pull the filler off the timing cover and make sure the key lined up with the key way. I have missed the alignment in the past and the key way actually cut part of the key off causing a timing problem. I couldn't get my head in to look so i used my phone and took a photo. I had missed the key way by at least half the key.

I never had luck with those timing spacers. Even after a tune the truck ran like crap. I would remove it and see how the truck runs after that.

Complete PITA!!!

With a little patience and a punch, I was able to get it to rotate around. Now I need to run my pump by the injection shop so they can match the pump to a new key. They said there are specific keys for each pump.

I feel your pain having to pull it twice. A good lesson to remember. It's nice to have people on here that's had the "been there done that" experience! Hope you got it going and running great.
