Time for A518 rebuild, and possible DTT mods...
The A518 in my 1st gen decided to grenade itself. I mean bad! It was like someone dumped a quart of never-seize and ran a drill press inside the tranny. Metal flakes all over. Lost od, lost 3rd, 2nd works intermittently, and reverse is sluggish. I am hoping to get to the tranny shop this week for a rebuild. However, I was thinking of adding a DTT 89% or 91% torque converter, DTT street/strip valve body, and a Magtec double deep trans oil pan. Is there anything else I should consider upgrading if the trans is getting ripped apart anyway? Also, I was running about 230HP and 24-25psi boost through the stock trans. Would a DTT 89% or 91% TC work better? I don't do any extreme heavy pulling. I may tweak the full load adjustment on the VE pump. I don't plan to exceed 300 hp. 250-275HP would be nice though. This truck is mostly used as a daily driver, a load of firewood here or there, pull a aluminum fishing boat once in a while, and on a rare occasion pull chopper boxes at the farm.
Thanks for the help.
