Which article were you referring to?

The first noticeable difference to be aware of is the first article is on a NON-Intercooled engine while the second article is on an Intercooled engine.
The thermostat housings are different.

The copper pellet faces in to the water jacket and it what senses the temperature.

NON-Intercooled

#8 shows to have an explanation: NOTE: this pic shows the T-Stat backwards in the housing, done so the jingle pins are obvious, BUT IT IS IN BACKWARDS IN THE PHOTO Dont install it this way!

Intercooled

Or is there something I am missing?

kdp killa, nope its facing the correct way.. when I first posted that, I had a diff photo... thought I had edited it but apearantly not.....I've PM'd Wannadiesel about changing that.. thanks for pointing it out!

In other words, the "spring side" of the thermostat inserts into the block, with the "solid" side facing the hose and radiator....

The important thing is that the jingle pins clear the housing properly.. they can get blocked in the closed positioon by the lip inside the housing, so make sure they are positioned properly and move freely before buttoning it all back up!
