My truck gelled twice last winter with blended fuel and Power Service in it the second time. Turns out it was the lift pump.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the replys.

I have only the 93 diesel dodge and I got it about 5/6 years ago so I am pretty much of an amateur when it comes to diesels.

I never gave a thought to the fact that they blended the fuel to match the season.

I have a 300 gal tank that I get fuel delivered to. When the fuel price was cheaper in July I had the tank filled. So now I think that part, if not all of the problem is, I am using summer grade fuel in 10* weather.

I will keep this in mind when I need to fill the storage tank next time.

Running Summer blend in the 10F temps IS the source of your problems.
Pour in a gallon of Power Service into your 300 gallon tank

Had my pile gel up on me this morning as I went to leave work. The outlet I plug the block heater extension cord was bad, so having a cold engine may have been a contributing factor. I fired the truck up and let it run for a few minutes, and when I came back outside, I noticed the idle was about 100rpms lower than normal...and continued to fall. It ended up stumbing and died, first thing I checked was the filter. I run 2% bio, and treated with Power Service, at -5F, it gelled. Got it cleared out with some 911 and I was on my way home 15 minutes later.

I like bio for its lubricity properties and all, but I did not anticipate a higher cloud point just from 2% mix.

Yep, this and you might throw a couple of gallons of Kerosene in your tank in the winter when running summer fuel as well.

Gelled again about a half hour after that last post, that's twice in about a week! After the first time I dropped the tank and cleaned it out and blew out the lines. I also switched filling stations.
I passed a bank about 3 miles before the truck quit and it said 17* At least I was prepared this time.

Does the fuel all by itself gel?? Or does there have to be water/moisture present in the fuel?

Your fuel has some waxes in it, and when the fuel gets cold, they fall out of suspension and solidify. No moisture needed.

Would said waxes be white when solidified? Little particles you could see in a filter on the pickup in the tank?

Yup, that is the stuff that plugs the filters.

It looks like little fine maggots or maybe pieces of sawdust.
