tachometer calibration

Hello,
I have a 91 intercooled all stock that I have converted to a crew cab. I am trying to put in some cheap gauges I came across before I turn up the injection pump. I am having difficulty with my tachometer, it is an Amtek Dixon out of a semi and has several dip switches on the back so it can be used on different vehicles with different tach signals. Does anyone know what they would be set at for a 91 5.9 cummins. Or does anyone know where the tach signal comes from on our vehicles. On the Amtek Dixon website there are charts for setting the dip switches but they all refer to the number of teeth on the flywheel, I think I remember reading that our signal comes from the damper pully. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Marv.

If you have a a crank position sensor, then yes, the signal comes from the harmonic balancer. In that case, the signal would be 1 per revolution since the crank sensor senses the one notch in the balancer. But...I'm not sure if the 91 has the CPS or not. I know the 92 and 93 had them whether or not they came with a factory tach. You'll see the CPS at about the 12 o'clock position above the balancer.

My '91.5 aftercooled truck has the notched damper, but no crank position sensor.

There are two notches in the damper, and I am using an Isspro pickup that mounts on one of the screws for the oil pan. It comes in a kit with two magnets to glue on your damper, but I don't have the magnets and the pickup works off the notches.
