tach question

i tried hooking up a tach from my nissan gasser, it was a universal tach, so i hooked it up to the Grey wire with the blue stripe and it didnt seem to work at all, is there something with these diesels you need to do or buy for a tach to work in it

Some of them work, some don't. My autometer z-series runs at about 1/2 speed hooked straight to the factory wiring.

I got this to go with the $30/used ISSPRO tach I found on Fleabay. Easy install, been working great for a year and a half, solid, no probs.

It's basically just a crank sensor, probably same or similar to what was used on the 92-93 trucks.

Has anyone on here used a big rig tachometer? I have a local heavy truck wrecking yard that sells tachs for $20. Many styles and sizes to choose from? I wonder if they would work on my 1st gen Dodge?

well theres also one called "tiny tach" and it has a pickup on your injector lines and when it senses a pulse of fuel it calculates it to rpms
