Question Tach question

The factory tach works great as long as the lights are off. Pull the lights on and the tach needle drops to zero. Also the light in the tach.doesn't come on with the dash lights. Could there be an electrical short somehow?? Any other ideas?? thanks

It sounds like you have a bad ground somewhere in the light circuit to the tach light. If the light is like most, it should make no differnece which wire is hot and which is ground, as long as they are seperate. Check to make sure nothing is jumping, arcking, or has come undone.

I had a similar problem with my FP gauge after the battery replacement- the ground for the gauge was backfeeding through the lights, and it caused some weird issues, solved simply by hooking the gauge ground back up like it should have been.

Check the tach ground, and if that looks good, trace the ground wire to a frame connection.

Ground. I just had a similar problem when I installed my pyro. My problem was the ground that went from the battery to the core support. It was enough of a ground for everything else, but not enough for the pyro.

Depends on what you used for a ground. I used the factory plug in the 92; 91 didnt have that option, so it got grounded to a ground behind the dash up underneath. Bright shiny metal, and it worked well.
