Sychromesh?
Has anybody used synchromesh in the getrag. Whats everyones opinion on using it. I know that 5w30 synthetic is what is recomended. However I have been running this for a few weeks pulling the trailer and when it gets hot and I stop I have a hard time getting it into 1st gear. When I had valvoline semi synthetic with a quart of lucas stabilizer it shifted better.
I've put the syncromesh into 2 cars and it made them shift 100x's better. Apparently it is made for trannies with brass syncros and it does not appear to be much thicker than motor oil. It is definately not as thick as gear oil.
If i'm off my rocker thinking about putting this stuff in let me know.
Thanks, Aaron

Penqoil actually makes some and it meets the specs of the BG/gm stuff. Thats what i've used in the other cars i've put it in. I am seriously thinking about putting it in. The penzoil stuff is only about $5 a quart so same price as synthetic motor oil. I know its penzoil, I would never/ have never used penzoil in anything. But most all the DSM people use it in the Talons/eclipses and it seems to work.

Redline and Amsoil both make a syncromesh transmission specific 5w30 full synthetic oil. Wanna uses the redline. I believe he'll say he likes it although he admits to not towing with it. My dad just changed to the Amsoil. Haven't heard how it shifts yet. Amsoil is around $7 a quart.

Royal Purple also makes one known as Synchromax. I'd run one of the three "boutique" oils before I spent what GM wants for Synchromesh fluid.
I'd suggest putting a temp gauge on that Getrag. Even with synthetic oil I wouldn't want to see it over 275. When it starts getting hot, just put 'er in 4th.

I would just use a cheapo electric water temp gauge. You can find ones that read to 280, if you peg 'er it's time to shift to 4th or back off if you're in the lower gears.

yep. el cheapo walmart 7 dollar water temp guage has everything you need for the job, including the correct adaptor, etc. Highest I have seen was around 240 deg. That was a long trip pulling heavy, and it does take a while to cool off after shutting her down

I have another one from surplus center. I put one of them on to read water temps already, guess I need to find a mount for 3 more gauges now!!
