Swap 4x4 ZF5 into 2WD D250 auto?
my 89 utility bed has the 3.07 rear end and the 3 spd. tranny. This truck will remain realatively stock except new injectors (I hear the 190's get better fuel mileage??).
Anway, my old 93 Ford F-250 is very rusty, but the drivetrain is strong. I was thinking about selling the engine and axles, scraping the body, and putting the ZF5 into the D250 for really good fuel mileage. The Ford is 4x4, the Dodge is 2x4. Is this possible? I was looking into this over the Getrag because I already have the ZF5. Anyone? Thanks

Although you are going about it a little backwards, you need to look around over at :
http://www.Cummins-Conversion.com
Several of those guys have put Cummins in Fords ahead of the ZF5.
Were I you, I would also use the transfer-case, even if you didn't install a 4x4 front-axle; low-range would be nice and it would give the option for 4x4 later.
In my opinion, though, the Getrag is the better 5-speed of the two.
From what I have seen, the ZFs don't like genuine heavy towing and will fail without warning.
The Getrag shifts like a Mack and the ZF shifts like a cheapie transmission behind a 4-cylinder gasser.

The cummins/ford adapters go on EBAY for around 200 and you'll need your flyheel to bolt to the crank adapter that should come with the adapter plate. It should be fairly inexpensive and unique. Definatly leave the T-Case on there and just nothch the bottom of the cab in need be then metal back over it.
