Stock Tranny strength
My truck has 125,000 miles on it and it is a 89 with the 3 speed. I was wondering if it can handle gov spring, pump adjustments, and POD's. Or do I need to get a valve body and maybe torque convertor.

Mine's got 248,000 miles on it and still hangin in there. It's sloppy and loose, but it's doing the job. Just make sure you keep it as healthy as possible. Change the fluid, filter, adjust the bands, etc.

Really quite easy. All you need is an inch*pound torque wrench. You can pick a budget model up at Harbor Freight. Almost any manual will have the procedure, even a Chilton's and the like.
The 3rd/Overdrive band adjustment is located on the drivers side front EXTERIOR of the tranny. It's just above the Throttle Valve lever with a lock nut on a square-headed bolt. The adjustment is *something like* (please look it up for yourself), loosen the lock nut, torque the square-headed bolt to 26 in*lbs, back off 2 1/2 turns, tighten the lock nut.
The 1st/2nd band adjustment is located INSIDE the pan at the rear of the transmission on the passenger's side. Lock nut/bolt arrangement looks the same. Adjustment procedure is much the same as the other band, but with different numbers.
