stock injector differences

Im in need of replacing 1 if not more injectors on my 93 and my engine ID is gone. Im told the block numbers will do. Im wondering what the differences are in the stock units when its a 93 truck. is it nozzles? or. Im told the early 89/92 or so use small nozzles and wont work good.
also can anyone tell me the correct removal/replacement procedure is.

I believe the change in nozzle diameter happened with the addition of the aftercooler.

So pre 91.5 truck injectors do not fit, but 91.5 to 93 are the same.

Cleanliness is next to godliness. Basically you unscrew the line, unscrew the retaining nut, use a pry-bar or a slap puller to oull the injector out, fish out the copper washer if needed, and then reverse the procedure. But I will let someone with all of the details nailed down fill you in better .

$320 for a set of POD's might not be so bad . . . You have a good excuse.

True ,the PODs are tempting, Im not sure if I need the xtra power, and really dont want to kill the mileage any more than it is. I need to get #5 tested first, then if its my problem I just might go with PODs. Are the injectors screwed into the outer nut? or pressed? then I assume the injector and nut are screwed in to the head. Without lookin at it, isnt the return line into the side of the injector as well. So it will need to be set or indexed just right to go all together? Ive become a mechanical disaster these days and im afraid to break something. Ive been told I could screw up a steel bar in a sand box

Ouch! That is mean . . .

The injectors are loose in the outer nut -- it just clamps them into the head. There is a littel steel ball that indexes the "clocking" of the injector body.

Just make sure that everything is clean, and that you have the correct size sockets/wrenches so you don't damage anything.

I don't have the torque specs to hand. The thread size and pitch for the injection line compression nut is posted out here somewhere -- so you can make a puller to get the body out after you take the nut off, if need be.

apache;
Becarefull not to over tighten the small bolts that hold the return lines on the injectors. they are hollow and will shear off quite easially (torque is somewear around 6-8-ft. lbs I beleive).
If I remember correctly the 89-91.5's non intercooled and the injectors are actually largger than the latter ones. My EDM's only cost me 2 mpg and gained me a lot more ponies.

You are correct. Non I/C injectors have a 9mm tip OD, the I/C ones have a 7mm OD tip.
Be sure to take the time to clean out the bores before putting in the new injectors...a bore brush works, screwdriver and a rag, long q-tips, etc.
I made a puller to change mine and it was easy, but I also changed out my son's on his 94 with just a prybar, and it was just as easy.

With everyone puttin new injector's in you might get some used one's real cheap. I wanted to sell mine, but don't know what they go for. Here in a few months I'll have two stock sets.
